"Mickey Mandala" Acrylic on masonite, 2004.

Recently Disneyland has invaded China. Soon even the famous places of Tibet will be innundated by the Mouse and his Legions! This may be the sort of cultural artifact seen for sale at the TibetanDisneyLand Gift Shoppe. (note: All characters are c. property of Disney inc. They are being used as American cultural icons for this piece of original art, so Disney, don't get your panties in a bunch).

"Madonna and Her Child." Acrylic on tin, 2004.

Using the traditional style of an antique Southwestern Retablo, I updated the Icons to include those not so saintly but still iconic. I got all kinds of trouble for this and similar paintings. Which means I must be doing my job!

"San Pablo de la Pinturenos" Acrylic on tin, 2004

Saint Picasso, patron of all painters. Another retablo for our times. We all need someone to pray to so we can get famous!

"Santa Freda" Acrylic on tin, 2004.

I noted that many Latino-Americans now worship Frida Kahlo as a near deity. They make altars and retablos to her. I thought I would show her as she might show herself, surrounded by her symbols of ill-gotten sainthood.

"San Vincenzo" Acrylic on tin, 2005.

Our Holy Brother of All Crazy Artists! St. Vincent Van Gough, protect us!(Helpful hint from Vince; do not chew on your paint brushes!)

"Our Lady of Death-Nuestra Senora de los Muertos" Acrylic on tin, 2004.

A retablo for the Dio de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.Even our most treasured icons must perish.

"Knight of Swans"Acrylic on masonite-4"X4"

One of my favorite artists is Heronymous Bosch. I did these miniatures as a series for my gallery "The Adelante" they were all based on incomplete sketches done by Bosch in his notebooks.

"The Fallen Angel" Acrylic on masonite, 4"X4"

One of Bosch's fascinating beasties, which I discovered were all fallen angels, you can see them falling from the sky to the earth in his famous Hay Wain painting. Like insects, these monsters infested Bosch's dreams and burrowed down into his mind.

"Saint Albans Preaching to the Fallen Angels" Acrylic on masonite, 4"X4"

An almost Christmas like image with my Patron Saint preaching to the "naughty children of God." They won't get any gifts if they keep acting up!

"The Tree Man" Acrylic on masonite 4"X4"

A man may have his roots firmly planted in the earth and his arms reaching up towards heaven, but if he bears evil fruit, he is hollow inside and full of sin. A dead fig-tree who awaits the woodsmans axe and the fire. This guy has been up rooted and cast adrift and I think he has drinkin' on his mind. Sounds like most of us, huh?
